Aerosmith’s
Pilot and
Airplane of
the month- November
Mr.
Roderick
Teng Sia Keng
with Fat Albert (GWS
C-130)
Profile of
a successful AeroMaster..
Mr. Teng or more affectionately known as Rod is a
Woodlands regular. He has been flying Model aeroplane there since after the
last dinosaur died, I was told. Rod has been involved with control line gas
model planes since the days of JFC (Junior Flying Club-now known as Youth
Flying Club) and has won many competitions and races during those forming years
of aeromodelling.
Rod has been flying radio control planes for a good few
years now and has become an authority in the field of electric RC. He is
involved in all facets of the sport, including twin EDF (electric ducted fan),
pusher Jets and scale gliders. One of Rod many specialties is in building
Depron Jets, he has built and successfully flown many pusher jets. Rod has,
without a doubt, contributed greatly in the research and development of the new
electric rc world, where almost every week we see new components and
accessories.
Previously, Rod used to build model planes professionally,
unfortunately for us, he doesn’t anymore, however he is willing to share all
of his experiences with all those who are interested. He is friendly,
dedicated, selfless and most of all, a true ‘aeromodeller’
We at Aerosmith, sincerely, appreciate Rod’s many
contributions over the years to this hobby. As such we are granting him the
honour of Aerosmith-Aeromaster –November..(short of calling him Mr.
November.)
Congratulations and keep up the Good work.

The
plane…..GWS
C-130-Fat Albert (Blue Angles)
This Gws C-130(marketed as Cargotrans Quad), is built
straight out of the box. The more apparent modification is the scratch built
two wheel-steerable nose gear and inboard flaps. The most outstanding quality
of this dame is the spectacular Paint job. Using spray paint and custom decals
that Rod printed on his own, this model C-130 is a very good functional
representation of the most colourful and mighty C-130 ever flown.
The stock power plant that came with the plane works well
on 2S (7.4v) Lipo. The synchronized humm of the four motors and propellers does
convey a feeling of reminiscent of 4 allison engines humming in sync during
take off roll.
This Kit is still readily available all over Singapore and
the last time I checked, it costs slightly over 100 SGD. A good buy and great
value for money.
In flight, it is predictable and with no nasty
characteristics. The 4 brushed motors gave sufficient power for all phases of
flight. It is however non-aerobatic and due to its straight wings, active
lateral control is apparently necessary especially in gusty wind conditions.
The low fly-bys and touch and gos are its most appealing points. Landing is
straight forward as the gears struts’ are short and in the tricycle
arrangement.
We would recommend this plane to all intermediate to
advance pilots.
**Aerosmith-hobby does not carry this plane in our stock
however we do carry applicable accessories**
