Profile of an
AeroMaster
First and foremost, we would like to apologize for the late
publication of this column, this was due to excessive and unexpected
workload over the past few months. Nonetheless, things have since
gone back to normal and ,gladly, routine again. For all who inquired
about the update, we apologized and, actually, to our surprise,
there is quite a following. Thank you for the support.
For the month of May, we would like to featured, Mr. Cheah Y.
Mun and his big Edge540T. Y.Mun is a regular at Woodlands dr. 17
flying site. Together with his brother, C. Mun, also occasionally
known as the Mum brothers, they have been flying electric, nitro ,
gas and soon to be Turbines Aircrafts. Y. Mun is an Engineering
Manager (electrical) with a local semicon manufacturer by weekday
and a model aircraft enthusiast by weekend. Go-Karting and
automotive modification also arouses his curiosity.
Y.Mun is happily married with 2 kids. Similar to most of us
who are married, he often finds limited time for his aeromodelling
as family matters always come first. However with a supportive
spouse, he manages to
find enough time to pursue his passion.
Actively, Y Mun has spent the last three years learning,
training and building miniature
aircraft. Even though, 3years seems to be a long time but the degree
of progress that he has made is nothing short of excellent. I could
still remember the early days of GWS formosa and Zero, seems eons
ago considering now he flies 26cc gasoline 4 stroke scale Aerobatics
planes.
Y
Mun's all time favorite aircraft, with no surprise, is the Edge 540.
Yak 54,Extra 330, 260,Su-31, Cap 232 and Pitt's Special, just about
rounded up all the planes used in the Red Bull races for the past
few years.
Some of the difficulties that he would like to share includes
sourcing of specific electronic parts and more commonly, storage
problems and restricted flying sites. In as far as pricing is
concerned, he finds that Singapore is quite blessed, products are
priced quite competitively and on par with oversea if not better. To
the question, what he would like to see more, he answered, more
unofficial gathering and get-togethers.
Informations sources includes Magazines like FLY RC and
Internet forums like DH, RC_MS, Rcuniverse and RC groups. As to why
he flies Model aeroplanes, he simply answered, has been his
childhood dream to fly. He does have some advise for new-comers,
please get help from establish flyers who knows what they are
talking about. Do not attempt this hobby alone as it may prove to be
frustrating both in terms of time and money.
With that, we are glad and honored to grant Mr. Cheah Y. Mun
the title of Aerosmith-hobby Aeromaster for the month of May. With
it, he enjoys 10%discount* on all his purchases made in the month of
August.
Keep up the Excellent effort.!
*discount is only
applicable on items that are not on special promotions
The
Plane....Edge 540T
This month we are featuring a gasoline plane for the first
time. As it should be obvious by now, this column is written not as
a revenue for advertising our products but as a platform to
recognize great but often silent achievements of local flyers in
Singapore. With this in mind, we are very happy to feature Y Mun's
Edge 540T.
This plane is quite popular amongst scale aerobatics pilots.
It is featured innumerous RC forums both locally and overseas. It
has a 70” span and ,primarily, constructed of Balsa and monokote.
Due to its seize, the wings are removable and are held together by
an aluminum tube wing joiner. This plane is currently available in
Singapore for a good bargain, it is being brought in by a private
distributor.
The powerplant that has been chosen for this plane is the
MVVS 26cc gasoline from NTC engineering. It swings a 18”x8”
prop. Ground running of the engine seems powerful enough and should
be able to pull the plane around through the various maneuvers
without a problem. As for Servos, HS 645s are used through out
except for throttle which incorporates HS 325. As far as electrical
power for servos, Polyquest 2S 1800mah are used in parallel.
Unfortunately, due to busy schedule and unfavorable weather
condition, this plane has yet to fly. However given the experience
that the Mun brothers already have, we have no doubt she will fly
great. Will update this column with flying data once she gets
airborne.
