Aerosmith’s
Pilot and
Airplane of the month- April
Mr. LO Y.N. with his SIG CHEROKEE

Profile of
a
successful AeroMaster..
This month, it gives us great pleasure
to feature Mr. Lo for our pilot of the month column. Better known as
Loyn, Mr. Lo is a regular at the Jalan Bahar flying field. To all of
you whom have not been there, it is actually a beautiful open area in
Jurong with a very challenging runway next to Jalan Bahar. Every
weekend a good selection of helis and planes both nitro and elec will
gather. Its nice enough just to be there to see the flying and chat
with the friendly crowd.
Loyn
is
just over 40 this year and works as an engineer. He is happily
married with one child. Favourite pastime is obviously Rc
aeromodelling. He has been into it for more that 30 years which means
he has experienced the innovation and development of RC equipments
first hand. Besides RC, Loyn is also a keen static modeler. He has been
building statics since primary 3. This story, I am sure, is quite
familiar to a lot of us. In Singapore, the difficulties include
financial constraint, time constraint and also space constraint.
As
for
pricing of RC equipment in Singapore, Loyn feels that top end items
are expensive. Branded items from Great Planes, SIG, Top Flight, Alfa
and Flying Stryo can be rather expensive. However China made products
are more reasonably priced. To the question of ‘what he would like to
see more?’ he answered, more quality product from US and Europe, more
flying events and less restrictive clubs.
From
where
you might ask Master Loyn, gets his technical info, it is simply
from the internet. As most of us do nowadays, local Rc tech forums can
be very helpful both in terms of asking and answering various queries.
As far as advices to new comer, Loyn has a very old school and proven
approach, he advices all newbies to read up and understand the
fundamentals of flying and to practice good approaches when coming to
land. This point cannot be over emphasized; all pilots of real airplane
will tell you that a good landings starts from a good approach, it
should not be any different for model airplane.
As
far
as Aviation in general, Loyn’s all time favourite aircraft is
nothing short of the Boeing B-17 flying fortress. As to why he
Aeromodells? well, like most of us, he was fascinated and amused by the
majesty of flight, however unlike some of us, he also takes the time to
fulfill his technical curiosity like understanding the intricacy of a
working motor. This fascination has prompted Loyn to experiment with
electric RC since 2001 and was the first few to make use of LI-PO
batteries. He also built one of the first indoor flyers in Singapore.
I
have
met Mr. Lo on a few occasions over the years. He seems to be very
interested with new innovations, be it how apparently small or
insignificant, the true trade of an engineer. He also spares no expends
to help new comers to set things up and explain how things work. He is
truly a committed and dedicated Aeromodeller.
With that, we would like to grant Mr. Lo Y.N. the
honorary title of Aerosmith Aeromaster for the month of April.
Congratulations! With this honour, Loyn would enjoy additional 10%
discount* on all his purchases made during the applicable month.
Keep up the Good work.!!
*discount
is
applicable to items that are not on special promotion.
The plane…..SIG
CHEROKEE
April
plane
of the month is Mr. Lo Y. N. Electric
Piper Cherokee by SIG. It has a span of 40” and it’s powered by
brushless motor AXI22/12/26 running on Thunder Power 3S 1320 mah. This
Cherokee is of Balsa construction making it a rigid and ‘true’
airplane.

As you might have already noticed, it is
a very smart and pretty airplane. Even though it is only sport scale
but the airborne picture here exhibit such smooth lines and handsome
dynamics that even ladies would easily fall in love with it. With the
tricycle under carriage arrangement, it is an excellent candidate to
make those perfect landing every time, also to practice those dreaded
crosswind approaches.
Loyn actually recommends this plane for beginners.
It is very stable in the air and has no bad habits.
**Aerosmith-hobby does not carry this plane in
our stock however we do carry applicable accessories**
